Who the heck is Fergie and why am I watching her on Good Morning America? Oh, my eyes… oh, my ears… oh my mind… I don’t think it’s a generational thing. I am utterly convinced music *was* better 20 years ago. What on *earth* is this crap?!? And why is this kid a star?

Basically? Sex sells. She's attractive and many of the songs from her solo stuff or the stuff she's done with the Black Eyed Peas like "My Humps" are racy. It's about the only thing I can see that makes her noteworthy.
Though looking up her bio on the Wikipedia she was the voice of Sally in some of the Peanuts cartoons, huh, weird.

From Sally Brown to Grindhouse. Talk about career whiplash.

Jason D just about summed it up.She also delivers her music with that blazin sexy almost Black style wrapped in a White mainstream package. Can't beat that.New Kids on The Block? Backstreet Boyz? NSync? Eminem? Britney Spears? Christine Aguilera? Lindsay Lohan? I'm sure there's more but I remain as blissfully ignorant as I can of acts like these. (Except Em has true skills...I respect that kid's lyricalism).

'My Humps' is the single worst piece of 'music' ever produced by mankind. You're not alone, Priest.

My brain has managed to mangle together two annoying crap songs, and it goes something like this: "My humps! My humps! My humps are on fire!"

No offense, but Fergie is about as sexy as Olive Oyl. She looks like a spastic duck when she dances, and she can't sing or perform worth a damn.
I'm convinced most artists like her have inked some sort of Faustian deal for fame, because there's no way they would be successful otherwise.
(see: Ashanti, Alicia Keys, etc.)

Shows how out of touch I am, too... you said 'Fergie' and I thought 'What, the Duchess of York?' But she hasn't been in the media for quite some years.

I love disposable pop music as much as the next person (Annie's "Anniemal" is easily the best pop/dance record I've heard in years), but Fergie is the epitome of everything that's wrong with pop music. She's a decent singer, but she lacks a distinctive style, and it certainly doesn't help that the lyrics for songs like "London Bridge" and "Fergilicious" are just flat out awful.

A lot of these non-singing chix are at least eye candy (Ciara, Ashanti, Christina Milian, etc.) This girl though...yuck. On every front.

Humps and bumps are all the industry is concerned with these days for the most part. The industry doesn't want real talent. Real talent(ed singers and/or performers) are headaches. They all seem to go crazy sooner or later (Michael, Whitney, Britney, Janet, on-and-on...).
Do you have any idea how many voices I had to *fix* over the past 5 years?? LOL
Non-singers are easier to control and even easier to replace. Just change the face and put the new voice over the same producer's tracks. Then play the new video and song over and over so that sooner or later, you start humming the track yourself, even if you hate the song...instant hit.

Hmmm...Britney and Janet are "talented singers"?
