Meanwhile, if McCain really wants to change the conversation and halt Obama’s momentum, there’s a really easy way to do it: apologize. Fire his campaign advisors and apologize for having been such a turd. Rise form his coma and be the good guy again. We saw how effective that strategy might be when he defended Obama from the “He’s An Arab” woman. If I were McCain’s advisors, that’d be my move: mea culpa. Take the hit. “If I lose, at least let me lose with my honor intact.” And watch the uncommitted hockey moms scamper back across toward him. It would be unprecedented. It would be cynically disingenuous. It would be brilliant.

I've seen it suggested elsewhere that this could be McCain's October Surprise. I still think it would be too little, too late, but it's probably the best shot he has left, short of things out of his control (Osama releases a tape right before the election again or a credible threat of a terrorist attack -- and by "credible" I mean actually credible, not just an obvious ploy for fear votes).

I wouldn't put it past McCain to take that as another Hail Mary pass. But he'd have to dump Sarah Palin for it to REALLY work, and not look like a gimmick.

Too late to dump Sarah. She's stapled to his butt now. "You've placed someone second rate a heartbeat away from a president with a serious health problem." --West Wing
BTW: is it just me, or, if Obama wins, won't Governor Palin have some serious problems w/President Obama? I mean, she seems way, way over the line, now, and Governor Palin will surely need something from President Obama someday.
And--
--I wonder how this run is playing bak in Anchorage? I mean, is Palin's political career over?

For some reason, I don't see Barack personally being overtly vengeful. I do, however, see Democrats in general taking every opportunity available to screw her over. But that's what they get for all of this scorched earth campaigning.
I'm not sure how this is going over in the far north, though. Alaska is one of those Red States through and through, but from what I've read, there have been bigger and bigger displays of public democrat support. At least within Anchorage. There was even an Anti-Palin demonstration at one point (featuring the Hockey Mamas For Obama).
The far right loves her, but even the not-so-far-right is starting to inch away from her. I doubt the state will go blue, but I wouldn't be surprised to see another Republician knock her off in a reelection bid.

did you see this I know you must have. IT seems funny now all of a sudden they're playing nice. I think the whole debate process is jaded, I would like to see the other party candidates and see what ideas they have. It is always nice to talk to more than just your friends in the room to see an other world view.
